Beautiful Killarney

Beautiful Killarney

Monday 8th to Thursday 11th October

Once again as we hit October it’s our annual Storytellers tour and after thinking long and hard as to where we would travel this year and after asking some of our regular travellers it came down once again to Irelands Capital of Tourism “Killarney”.

There is never a dull moment in Killarney and we hope this year will be no different.
This time we take on “The Ring of Kerry Tour” and many other places of interest and of course some shopping for the Ladies in Killarney.

We will once again be staying in one of our favourite Hotels the lovely 4 star Killarney Oaks on the Muckross Road where the staff, the food and rooms are praised every time we stay there.

The Killarney Oaks also provides us with our own venue for each evening’s entertainment which means we can sing, chat, recite and tell as much lies as we can during our stay.

Looking forward to our annual Storytellers tour as usual and hoping to see as many old friends as possible and perhaps a few new ones as well.

Lisdoonvarna Festival

Lisdoonvarna Festival

Monday 24th to Thursday 27th September

This is a 4-day tour to Clare the traditional Irish Music Capital of Ireland.

It has been said many times that there is nowhere quite like Lisdoonvarna in September and judging by the crowds that flock there for the Festival each year there might be some truth in this.

So as the song says:
“We’re off to Lisdoonvarna at the end of the year, I’m off for the bit of craic the women and the beer”.

The festival takes on a life of its own so Candy Tours like all the rest will go
with the flow.
While in Lisdoonvarna we will also visit other places of interest
during the day such as the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, Miltown Malbay and enjoy
the wonderful sights of County Clare.

Rose of Tralee Festival

Rose of Tralee Festival

Saturday 10th March

The Rose of Tralee International Festival which any woman with even remote
Irish connections may enter has made Kerry’s Capital town famous all over
the world.

The wonderful love song “The Rose of Tralee” was written about the first Rose, Mary O’Connor, and her sweetheart a young soldier who went abroad to fight in India.

He returned home to Tralee hoping to marry Mary, only to see her coffin being carried to the local graveyard. Ever since The Rose of Tralee has become Kerry’s best-loved song.

Carlow’s Ollie Hennessy is Musical Director of the Rose Festival for the past 22 years.

With the wonderful atmosphere surrounding the festival, it is little wonder that people keep returning year after year.

We will be staying at the 4 star Killarney Oaks Hotel, tickets will be provided for the final night (Tuesday).

If you are interested in travelling to the Rose festival a booking complete with a deposit of €100 must be with our office not later than 1st March 2018 as otherwise, we cannot guarantee a booking such is the demand for tickets and Hotel Rooms during the Festival.

Derry City and Tyrone

DERRY CITY AND TYRONE

(AMERICAN FOLK PARK OMAGH)

Monday 21st May to Thursday 24th May

This 4-day tour will take us to the beautiful walled City of Derry with a population of approx.90,000 slightly more than Galway City.

Derry is a very ancient City, the walls of Derry reflect its status as one of the best preserved walled Cities in Europe, Derry of course perhaps suffered more than anywhere else in Ireland during the three decades of strife before the Good Friday agreement was signed.

We will engage a local tour guide for our tour of Derry City as our own guide John Candy would not be familiar enough with the history of this ancient City in order to give an informed and detailed tour of this lovely place.

We will, of course, visit the famous historic city walls for a walking tour. These walls are the only set of intact city walls remaining in Ireland. The walls were built in the 17th century as defences for early settlers and are approx. 1 mile in circumference. We will visit St Columba’s Cathedral which was built in 1633.

A complete restoration of this beautiful Cathedral was completed in 2011 with some stunning features which will be viewed on the day of our visit. No trip to Derry would be complete without a visit to the magnificent Guild Hall which has received many accolades from many professional bodies and a restoration of £9.5 million was spent in 2013.

We will also visit the Bogside, the site of Bloody Sunday and more during our visit to the unique and beautiful City that is Derry.
We will visit Omagh in Co Tyrone, another town steeped in history from our troubled past, here we will visit the Ulster American Folk Park for a couple of hours.

Candy Tours will have this booked in advance to enable you to have a good time to immerse yourself in the story of Irish emigration and retrace the steps of millions of emigrants who made the treacherous journey across the Atlantic in search of a new life in the 17th and 18th centuries.

You will need sterling on this tour as most of our time will be spent in Northern Ireland.

We will be staying at the 4 star Clanree Hotel in Letterkenny which has a Leisure Club and Swimming Pool.

Killarney and West Cork

Wonderful Killarney and West Cork

Monday 16th to Thursday 19th April

When we think of holidays in Ireland is there anywhere that stirs the imagination like the tourist capital of Ireland “Killarney”.

The Jaunting carts, Muckross House and Gardens, Torc Waterfall, Killarney National Park, Kate Kearney’s Cottage, Ireland’s highest mountain Carrauntoohil, Shops, Restaurants, Hotels, Killarney has it all.

On Tuesday we will travel to Lovely Glengarriff in West Cork on the shores of Bantry Bay with its Craft Shops and its relaxed way of life. We will also visit the beautiful little Church in the unspoiled valley of Gougane Barra founded by St Finbarr in the 6th century.

We will then travel to the site of The Kilmichael Ambush perhaps the most important battle in the war of Independence in 1922 with Tom Barry and his comrades.

On Wednesday after breakfast we will travel to Tralee to visit Blennerville Windmill the tallest Tower Mill in Europe standing 70 ft. high in Tralee Bay.

Blennerville was the main port of emigration from Co Kerry during the great Famine in the mid-1800s. Blennerville was home to the famous emigrant ship the Jeanie Johnson.
Over a seven-year period, the emigrant ship carried over 2500 people safely to the new world from Tralee. This remarkable story will be told in an Audio Visual on the day.
